Transatlantic shipping from London works best when you decide the shipment type first: documents, a standard or oversized box, luggage, household items, or excess baggage. Each path has slightly different packing and paperwork needs.

Before you pack

  • Confirm the full US delivery address, including ZIP code and phone
  • Decide whether the contents are documents only or dutiable goods
  • Check for items that airlines and customs commonly restrict
  • Photograph high-value items and keep purchase receipts if relevant

Packing for USA transit

Use a sturdy carton or travel case that can take stacking. Fill voids, protect corners, and avoid over-stuffing soft bags that can tear. For luggage and suitcases, secure zippers and remove old airline tags so the courier label is unambiguous.

Customs description tips

Describe goods specifically (“cotton shirts × 4”, “ceramic mug”) rather than “gifts” or “personal effects” alone when you are shipping goods. Accurate descriptions speed clearance. Document-only shipments are usually simpler, but still need clear sender and recipient details.

London hand-over options

Bring the shipment to a Central London ShipCentre location, or enquire about pickup. If you are also sending printouts or passport photos for travel, you can often complete those errands in the same visit at supporting centres.

Note: Duties, taxes and clearance outcomes depend on contents, value and US customs rules at the time of import. We help prepare the shipment; final assessment sits with authorities and the chosen carrier product.
