How to Package a Parcel for Courier Shipping

Courier networks are efficient — and busy. Parcels that arrive damaged often failed at packing: weak cartons, empty space inside, or tape that peeled off mid-journey. A few disciplined steps dramatically improve outcomes.

Choose the right outer box

Pick a carton slightly larger than the contents so you can add cushioning on all sides. Double-wall boxes are worth it for heavier or international shipments. Never rely on a shopping bag or flimsy retail box alone for courier transit.

Immobilise the contents

• Wrap each item individually when shipping multiples
• Fill all voids so nothing shifts when the box is shaken
• Keep heavy items at the bottom; lighter items on top
• Add edge protection for books, frames and electronics

Seal and label cleanly

Use strong packing tape in an H-pattern across the top and bottom flaps. Remove old barcodes. Place the courier label on a flat face — not over seams or corners — and keep a spare copy of the tracking number.
